Project Duration
Innovate360, a bike-sharing platform leveraging IoT technology, sought to redefine urban mobility by providing seamless access to electric bikes in major cities. However, their mobile app, a critical interface for riders, suffered from usability issues and technical limitations that led to frustration and a 15% drop in retention. The redesign project aimed to create an intuitive, engaging app that delivered real-time bike metrics, such as battery life and GPS tracking, while introducing gamified features to encourage repeat usage. By addressing rider pain points and aligning with Innovate360's mission of sustainable mobility, the app sought to boost retention and establish the platform as a leader in the competitive bike-sharing market.
Challenges
The Innovate360 app struggled with a cluttered navigation structure and delayed data syncing, which frustrated riders and contributed to a significant drop in retention, as users found it difficult to access key features like bike unlocking and ride summaries. The lack of accessibility features limited adoption among diverse user groups, particularly those with visual or motor impairments. Additionally, inconsistent UI across iOS and Android platforms created a disjointed experience, undermining the app’s reliability and user trust.
Solutions
To address these issues, the app’s user interface was streamlined with a dashboard-centric layout that prioritized critical metrics like battery life, speed, and GPS tracking, ensuring riders could access essential information quickly. Real-time Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) integration was implemented to enable instant data syncing between bikes and the app, eliminating delays. Gamified elements, such as ride streaks and achievement badges, were introduced to boost engagement, while accessibility features were incorporated to comply with WCAG 2.1 standards, making the app inclusive for all users.
Our Approach
Discovery Phase: Conducted interviews with 100+ riders to understand pain points in bike-sharing workflows. Analyzed app analytics to identify high-drop-off points, such as unlocking and payment processes.
Design & Development: Developed low-fidelity wireframes to map user journeys, from bike discovery to post-ride summaries. Created high-fidelity prototypes with a minimalist, high-contrast UI for accessibility. Built the app using Flutter for cross-platform consistency.
Collaboration: Worked with BikeSync’s engineering team to integrate BLE protocols and IoT APIs for real-time data. Engaged riders in beta testing to refine features like predictive maintenance alerts.
Testing & Validation: Conducted A/B testing on dashboard layouts, resulting in a 25% increase in user interaction with key features. Performed accessibility audits to ensure WCAG 2.1 compliance, improving usability for visually impaired users.
Key Deliverables
Redesigned mobile app UI/UX with responsive dashboards for iOS and Android.
Real-time data integration for battery, speed, and GPS tracking.
User onboarding flows and predictive maintenance notification system.
